Four Reasons For Lifting The Hands in Praise

One of the ways we can praise God boldly is by lifting our hands to Him. Although this particular expression of worship may seem somewhat strange to some, yet there is plenty of biblical basis for the practice.

Here are four reasons why we ought to lift our hands in praise:

1. Lifting The Hands Is a Scriptural Way of Expressing Thanks to God:

"Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name" (Psalms 63:3,4).

2. Lifting The Hands Is an Appropriate Way to Worship God in The Sanctuary.

I know that in public worship, all things are to be done "decently and in order" (I Corinthians 14:40); but there is nothing disorderly about praising Jesus "in the sanctuary" by lifting up my hands! "Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord' (Psalms 134:2).

3. It Is Gods Will That We Worship in This Way.

Man’s order in religion is often ceremonial, ritualistic, and after human tradition. But Gods order in worship is life, liberty and lifting up of hands! "I will therefore that man pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting" (I Timothy 2:8).

4. Lifting the Hands Is a Symbolic Way of Expressing Ascending Worship.

"Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice" (Psalms 141:2).
