You are embarking upon a new life--a journey on the exciting road of
serving God. In order to assist you in beginning your new journey, we
would like to suggest some important keys to further your spiritual
growth:
1. Congratulations! You have just made
the most important decision you have ever made in life, and we want to
welcome you into the body of Christ! 1. Read your Bible daily! Second
Timothy 2:15 says, "Study to show thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly diving the
word of truth." We would suggest you begin by
reading the book of John in the New Testament. It will give you a good
picture of who Jesus is and what He is about. Once you've read John,
don't stop there--go on to read other parts of the Bible, and get to
know God. If you don't have a Bible of your own, please let us know
because we would like to give you one free of charge.
2. Practice what you read! James 1:22 says, "Be ye
doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own
selves." As you read the Word of God, the Lord will show
you adjustments to make in your new life. Some of these adjustments may
seem hard, but know that God's motive in asking you to make adjustments
is so you can be more greatly blessed. He loves you, and He wants no
hurt or harm to come to you.
3. Pray every day! First Thessalonians 5:17
says, "Pray without ceasing." It's
vitally important that you pray daily. You now have a personal
relationship with God, and He wants to hear from you and
converse with you. To develop a close relationship with someone,
you need to spend quality time with that person, right? In the
same way, to develop an intimate relationship with God requires
spending quality quiet time with Him. He's never, ever too
busy for you, and He longs to spend time with you--yes, you!
4. Come to church! The Lord admonishes us
that we are not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together
(Hebrews 10:25). Church is a place for you to worship God and
learn more about Him. It's also a place where you can get to
know your new brothers and sisters in the Lord.
QUESTIONS
YOU MAY HAVE
Q: What do I do if I sin?
A: First John 1:9 has the answer: "If we confess our
sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness." In other words, when you
have caught yourself sinning, turn away from the sin, tell the sin to
God asking Him to forgive you, and He will. This is known as
"repenting."
Q: What if I keep sinning over and over? Won't God get mad at me?
A: Even though we can confess our sins from a humble heart and be
cleansed of them, He doesn't condone sin. Romans 6:1-2 says, "What
shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God
forbid. How shall we, that are dead in sin, live any longer
therein?"
However, if we sin again, we must repent again. Proverbs 24:16 says, "For
a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again." Therefore,
when we have sinned the same sin, we need to humbly repent once again,
and then we are cleansed again.
Q: How do I pray?
A: It's important that you pray from your heart. Don't bother
trying to sound pious--just talk to God like He's your best friend. He
really is your best friend, you know.
Also, pray in the name of Jesus who Himself said in John 16:24, "Hitherto
have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your
joy may be full." Jesus is the One who made it possible for
us to come to God, and it's in Jesus' name that we approach God.
WE LOVE
YOU!
